Four 3 hour classes on: October 12, October 26, November 9 and November 23.

Suitable for ages 18+

Led by Melissa Fitzpatrick (@Brooklyn_needlework)

This is a beginner friendly quilting class, although familiarity with a sewing machine is preferred.  You may bring your own machine or use ours.

In this class, participants will learn how to make 4 different styles of traditional/commonly used quilting blocks like the log cabin and the star block. The class will consist of 4 in-person classes, three hours each.

Required materials: A fat quarter bundle (or more!) and thread. Additional tools and materials to be discussed in class, but these are just the essentials.

In the first of the “Quilt Block Classes”, Melissa will be guiding you in planning, cutting and piecing the traditional Log Cabin Block.  Deceptively simple in it’s design, this quilt block is perfect for the beginning quilter — it’s construction highlights the need for attention to detail while also allowing the quilter to explore creatively with color and quilt planning.

At the end of the three hours class, you will have at least two finished quilt blocks (12.5”x12.5”) and the materials and confidence to complete 18 more — enough for a lovely lap quilt or crib quilt.

We’re looking forward to exploring this versitile and universally loved quilt block with you!!

Class requirements:

—Proficiency in machine sewing

— Two sets of contrasting/complementing 5 pc fat quarter bundles (total of 10 fat quarters).

— a Quarter yard of fabric (fat quarter or by the yard) for the center of your block (traditionally this is a red or yellow fabric but you can choose any color that complements your main fabric colors).

— Machine Sewing thread (neutral color is fine)

— Seam ripper

— Quilting pins

We will have a rotary cutter, cutting mat and rulers, but if you have these items, please feel free to bring them!

We also have enough machines for all of the class participants.  You may bring your own machine if you are comfortable using it and, most importantly, comfortable fixing/adjusting it if something goes awry!  If you and your machine are in an on again/off again relationship (totally normal!), please feel free to leave her at home and use one of the machines we have in the studio!  We wont tell.
