Learn to Sew the Ogden Cami with Melissa Fitzpatrick

Get your wardrobe ready for spring and step up your garment sewing skills in this fun, intensive   day long class!  Melissa Fitzpatrick will guide you through the process of making a lovely spring camisole by True/Bias from start to finish — sizing, fabric choices, cutting and prepping the pattern pieces and sewing it all together!   You will leave the class with a top that will carry you through the spring and summer months, as well as the knowledge and confidence to make multiple camis (as well as pinafores, babydoll dresses, shifts — all the summer staples!).

Skills and techniques we’ll be focusing on include:

—  Understanding pattern sizes and finding the perfect fit for you

—  Tracing patterns and cutting and marking your fabric accurately

—  Finishing techniques, such as linings, French seams and neat hems

—  Sewing Machine basics (plus some super helpful tips!)

—  Altering patterns for style and fit preferences

This class will jump right into sewing, so a basic knowledge of how to sew on a machine is key — i.e., if you’ve made masks, then you’re ready for this class!  Also, if you have a machine that is portable, please consider bringing it in for the class.  We will have machines available, but its always nice sewing on a machine you are comfortable with.

*NOTE* We will be using the True/Bias Ogden Cami pattern in this class and it has two pattern options — traditional and curvy.  Brooklyn General has samples of both tops if you would like to compare, but essentially the traditional pattern is created for folks with a C-cup bra size (or smaller) and the curvy pattern is sized for D-cup.  Brooklyn General carries both patterns and we can discuss which is the right one for you!

Required materials:

True/Bias Ogden Cami Pattern:  Class cost does not include materials, but students will receive a 10% discount on supplies purchased for the class. It is important that you select your fabric before the class so it can be pre-washed. You are also welcome to use fabric you have at home!
